I have discovered the Sun host does not have pop-3 defined in the services
file.  I did an Archie search and found the pop3 unix file at
liac.berkeley.edu in /pub/pop.

The Sun host services file had pop-2 109/tcp but not
pop-3 110/tcp.

Can the Windows version of Eudora use the pop-2 inplace of pop-3?

Ugh.  Define a nameserver or two.  For the University of Illinois at
Urbana Champaign (uiuc.edu), your nameservers are:

UIUC.Edu        nameserver = VIXEN.CSO.UIUC.EDU
UIUC.Edu        nameserver = UXC.CSO.UIUC.EDU
UIUC.Edu        nameserver = IUGATE.UCS.INDIANA.EDU
VIXEN.CSO.UIUC.EDU      internet address = 128.174.5.58
UXC.CSO.UIUC.EDU        internet address = 128.174.5.50
IUGATE.UCS.INDIANA.EDU  internet address = 129.79.1.9

In the Winsock setup, enter the IP address (not the name).
